LA MUELA II HYDROelectric power plant

Power generation PROJECT

The complex La Muela (La Muela I and La Muela II) is the largest hydroelectric pumped storage plant in operation in Europe located on the right bank of the River Júcar in the Municipal Terminus of Cortes de Pallás, in Valencia (Spain).

The extension La Muela II features four groups of reversible turbines with a total capacity of 712 MWh (pumping mode) or 852 MWh (generating mode). The project utilizes the Júcar River as the lower reservoir and an artificial upper reservoir.

In total, La Muela I and La Muela II have a combined generating capacity of more than 2,000 MWh. Europe’s largest pumped-storage power plant was inaugurated in October 2013.
